The Bloom Firm is pleased to announce the Civil Rights Live Legal Panel meeting on Wednesday, July 1, 2015.  The inaugural Civil Rights Live Legal Panel is being convened to serve as a positive platform for meaningful dialog between community members and law enforcement personnel. The panel will allow us to address the continued challenges that exist between members of the African American and Latino communities in relationship to law enforcement in urban centers throughout the City of Los Angeles.

Civil Rights Live Legal Panel:

Lisa Bloom is the founder and managing partner of The Bloom Firm, a general practice law firm that handles family, civil and criminal matters. Carl E. Douglas is an American lawyer, specializing in police misconduct cases. He is best known for being one of the defense attorneys in the O.J. Simpson murder case. Douglas is the former managing attorney at the Law Office of Johnnie Cochran Jr, before leaving the firm to start his own firm, The Douglas Law Group, in 1998.[2] Among Douglas’ other clients was singer Michael Jackson (both trials),[3] actors Jamie Foxx, and Queen Latifah.

 

Jamon Hicks has a unique experience of practicing in the areas of civil litigation and criminal defense, representing plaintiffs in state and federal courts. His civil litigation experience involves wrongful death, serious personal injury and police misconduct cases.

 

 

Angela Powell, Senior Counsel in the Los Angeles office of Manning & Kass. Powell, is a former Los Angeles County deputy district attorney has prosecuted hundreds of violent crimes, including robbery, kidnapping and capital murder. Presently, Powell is a member of the Manning & Kass Governmental Entity Liability Team.

 

 

Tony Sain, Senior Associate on the public entity defense and employment law teams of the law firm of Manning & Kass. Mr. Sain’s practice centers on defending local governments, law enforcement agencies, and police officers in civil rights, excessive force, unlawful arrest, wrongful death, and employment discrimination-type actions.

 

 

Dr. Kyle B. Jackson, Commander, Los Angeles Police Department (Retired) will appear on the panel speaking as a former Los Angeles Police Department Officer. Dr. Jackson is currently an Adjunct Professor at West Los Angeles College and The Chicago School Professional Psychology.
