Attorneys Lisa Bloom and Teri Gibbs hold press conference for client Nia Love, a peaceful BLM protester who was shot by a rubber bullet by Sacramento law enforcement, leaving her blind in one eye
In June 2020, attorneys Lisa Bloom and Teri Gibbs held a press conference on behalf of their client Shantania “Nia” Love, a 29-year-old Sacramento medical assistant and mother of two who was shot in the left eye with a rubber bullet on May 29, 2020 while peacefully protesting the police killing of George Floyd. Love was attending her first Black Lives Matter rally when officers fired into the crowd at a Highway 99 overpass; doctors told her she would likely never regain sight in the injured eye. Bloom announced plans to file a formal complaint and civil lawsuit against the law enforcement agencies involved, called for criminal charges against the officer who fired the projectile and any supervisors who authorized the use of force, and issued a public appeal for witnesses and video from the night of the incident.
